Douglas Laboratories Wobenzym N, 200 Tablets
What is Wobenzym N?
Joint pain is a very common complaint nowadays, especially in the aging population.
In fact, in the United States, joint pain (such as those in arthritis) is one of the leading causes of disability in the population. That is why investments have been made in maintaining and improving joint health.
Who is the Manufacturer of Wobenzym N?
One of the pioneers in joint products is Wobenzym, which has been introduced decades ago. Since then it has been used by millions of people across the globe.
Wobenzym is the leading joint health brand in the world. During the 1950s, a well-respected scientist and professor, Dr. Max Wolf, has been conducting studies on enzyme combinations.
Dr. Wolf collaborated with his colleague, Dr. Helen Benitez, in formulating plant enzymes (bromelain and papain), pancreatic enzymes (trypsin and chymotrypsin), and an antioxidant (flavonoid rutin). The formula was called Wolf-Benitez Enzymtherapie, hence the name Wobenzym. During the 1960s, it was launched in Germany as a supplement for healthy joints.
How Does Wobenzym N Work?
This is one of the products of the Wobenzym family. It is made from delicate combinations of various enzymes that are packaged in the vegetable-based casing to ensure the optimum release of the enzymes directly into the bloodstream.
Wobenzym N Ingredients – Are they Safe & Effective?
Each tablet contains the following ingredients:
- Pancreatin 56,000 USP units protease (pancreas) Sus scrofa
- Papain 492 FIP-units Carica papaya
- Bromelain 675 FIP-Bromelain as units Ananas comosus
- Trypsin 2,160 FIP-units (pancreas) Sus scrofa
- Chymotrypsin 900 FIP-units (pancreas) Bos Taurus
- Rutoside trihydrate (Rutin) Sophora japonica
- Cellulose
- Vegetable-based enteric coating
- Vegetable stearate
- Natural vanilla flavor
- Purified water
Most of the contents of Wobenzym N are proteolytic enzymes that are mostly known to aid in the digestion process. Papain and Bromelain are proteolytic enzymes found in fruits while Chymotrypsin and Trypsin are naturally occurring enzymes in the body. This group of enzymes is effective in enhancing digestion. Several studies have found out initially that proteolytic enzymes may be effective for neck pain and osteoarthritis.
Bromelain (Pineapple extract) and Papain (Papaya extract) are common ingredients in various joint products. It is believed that these two plant enzymes are beneficial in reducing inflammation that causes joint pain in rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. However, there are limited studies done to prove this theory. Bromelain alone has been just mentioned in NMCD (Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database) as “possibly effective” while Papain has fewer studies that prove efficacy for joint pain.
